Carving is a refinement of the "cut turn" whilst skiing. From experience we know that people can ski better the carving skis however you need to know the technique. With the necessary technique the best material still won't lead you to success.
With carving the turns are only made on the edges instead of drifting or sliding through the turns. Modern carving skis enable this skiing technique thanks to a more pronounced side cut and that's why it's easier to ski on the edges. With carving, skiing on the edges leaves clear tracks in the snow. This technique carving comes from "engraving" the tracks".
